Meet Sunny, a dog whose heartbreaking story took a joyful turn just in time for the holiday season.

The British Columbia Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (BC SPCA) has shared an uplifting update about Sunny, a pup whose journey has resonated with many.

Back in October, the BC SPCA reported that animal protection officers rescued Sunny, a young Collie mix, after he was tragically dragged behind a truck for approximately 200 meters in Merritt, British Columbia.

When he was brought in, Sunny was in dire condition. He had abrasions on his front and back paw pads, his nails were severely damaged, and he was notably underweight. In fact, he had a body score of just two out of nine, indicating he was “very thin.”

The good news is that Sunny has made a remarkable recovery since that harrowing incident. In November, the BC SPCA took to Instagram to share that he received exceptional care during his healing process.

They noted, “The painful wounds on his paws were tended to with careful bandaging and close monitoring while they healed, and he was given pain relief medication to make his life as comfortable as possible.”

Additionally, the team devised a plan to help Sunny gain weight, as he arrived at the shelter quite frail. The updates from the BC SPCA revealed that the lovable pup has been “looking and feeling so much better.”

They were thrilled to observe a noticeable change in his personality, stating, “It’s amazing to see the shift in his personality.”

Following these encouraging updates, the BC SPCA recently announced even more heartwarming news: Sunny has found his forever home just in time for Christmas!

His new mom, Darlene, shared that they decided to rename him Buddy. Darlene and her partner fell head over heels for him the moment they met.

Darlene recounted their first encounter with Buddy, who was playing in the animal center’s gated yard. At that time, he was wearing a cone after being neutered. She fondly remembered, “He saw us and ran over to us and started to give us kisses.

Our heads were stuck in the cone with his.” The bond formed quickly, as Darlene noted how Buddy warmed up to them almost instantly.

This story is a beautiful reminder of resilience and the power of love, especially during the festive season. Sunny, now Buddy, is ready to embrace his new life filled with warmth and affection.
