A recent video has touched hearts everywhere, showing a resilient shelter dog clinging to hope, even after being bullied and abandoned time and time again.

The Humane Society of Broward County shared the emotional story of King, a stray who once endured BB gun attacks.

Through it all, this sweet pup has stayed “gentle” and “still trusting.” He’s holding out for the loving home he’s always needed—and never truly had.

Shelter dog keeps wagging his tail after a life of pain

In the clip posted by the Humane Society of Broward County, King is seen patiently waiting at the shelter, holding onto the idea that life can still get better.

At five years old, this lovable boy has already been through more than most dogs ever will. The shelter shared that King was tormented by children in the neighborhood where he lived as a stray.

They went so far as to shoot at him with BB guns.

His suffering didn’t end there. King was later found hurt and abandoned in an area known as a dumping ground.

As the shelter explained, it was as if no one cared what happened to him.

The video includes an X-ray of his skull, revealing five BB pellets still stuck in his head.

Despite the pain and the betrayal, King remains a kind soul. “Still gentle,” “still sweet,” and “still trusting,” the shelter wrote, making it clear just how remarkable his spirit is.

The video captures King with a soft, hopeful gaze and a gentle tail wag that seems to say he hasn’t given up. He’s now safe at the shelter, wishing for a life filled with love and kindness. But things haven’t gotten easier just yet.

The shelter shared that King is now dealing with heartworm—another tough blow in a lifetime full of challenges.

To make things worse, a family recently adopted and then returned him, saying they didn’t have enough time for him. Once again, King was left behind.

Even after everything, King is holding out hope that someone will come along, choose him, and finally give him the love he’s always needed.

The Humane Society of Broward County is also covering the cost of his heartworm treatment after adoption, hoping it helps King find the lasting home he deserves.
