Several canines in the system continue to await their forever homes and families. Among them is Emerald, a Boxer Mix who has spent nearly five years hoping for adoption.
Rescued in October 2019, this Ohio shelter dog was in poor condition upon arrival. Despite years at the shelter, Emerald still hasn’t found her permanent home.

According to 19 News, Jason Cooke, founder of Healthy Hearts and Paws Project, revealed that Emerald was rescued from a “disgusting” Youngstown apartment. She suffered from skin conditions and had “horribly” overgrown nails.
Cooke added that the rescue site reeked of urine, as Emerald was never taken outside.
Following veterinary treatment, medicated baths, and a special diet, Emerald’s coat recovered.
Her Petfinder page mentions ongoing skin allergies requiring daily Apoquel. It also highlights her love for play and belly rubs.
Emerald is “dog selective” and coexists with non-bothersome cats. She prefers homes without small children due to toy-sharing issues.
The page describes Emerald as a “people pleaser” who “works hard for treats!” She’s house-trained with up-to-date vaccinations. 19 News reports that Emerald tested negative for heartworm.
The project focused on potty training and leash walking as she didn’t require disease treatment.
A video showcases Emerald on a walk, presumably with a caretaker. She demonstrates attentiveness, pausing when asked to look back, before continuing her stroll after a brief bathroom break.
