In a fresh video, Instagram user @big.head.boys introduces us to Guppy, a rescue dog whose path to her new home was quite a long road. The owner of Guppy shared that choosing to adopt again was a tough call. After they lost their last dog, Simon, they spent many months feeling unsure if they could handle that emotional journey once more.
As time passed, that doubt started to turn into a willingness to try. Now, a sweet video shows their newly adopted shelter dog taking in everything around her for the very first time.
Adopted Shelter Dog Loves Her Freedom While Riding Piggyback on Mom
The story for Guppy started when California Bully Rescue stepped in to pull her from a shelter in Sacramento. She was found as a stray and was not in good shape, likely kept for breeding before someone left her behind.
Bad ear infections made her ears swell up, and she later needed surgery to take out the damaged ear canals. Because of this, she is now partly or mostly deaf.
Even with that history, Guppy has a very calm and kind spirit. Her new owner first thought about getting a smaller dog, but they did not think they would find a bond with a dog like her.
Guppy weighs about 35 pounds and showed right away that size does not change how much space she takes up in their hearts. Her relaxed mood helped her get along with Bub, the other dog in the family. Bub took a while to get used to her, but they soon started playing together.
The newest video shows the shelter dog sitting snugly in a backpack, riding on the back of her mom during a trip after her adoption. With her head poking out, she calmly watches the world go by. She looks at the sights and movement in a way that is both curious and peaceful.

The owner said that Guppy is still getting used to things physically, as her short legs get tired fast. To make sure she can still go on daily trips, they use a backpack and a stroller. This plan is working well. The pup is slowly getting used to her new home and what her owner calls “ranch dog life.”
At home, her friendship with Bub is getting stronger. While she has a fun and sometimes silly side, she also wants to be close all the time, often trying to cuddle with him. For her owner, the change has been a relief. What once felt like a risk now feels like exactly the right move.
