Last year, a dog left for dead in the trunk of a car was joyfully reunited with her foster mom. This touching reunion took place on Wednesday, November 20.
The Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region shared this heartwarming tale on Thursday, November 21.
“Our Animal Law Enforcement (ALE) officers got a call about dogs abandoned in a car trunk,” the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region recounted.
“When they arrived, they heard desperate cries coming from the trunk. What they found was beyond heartbreaking.”
The officers discovered ten severely neglected puppies in the trunk. Only three of them were still alive. All the puppies were extremely underweight, with visible bones due to lack of muscle and fat. The surviving puppies were dehydrated, cold, and covered in urine and feces.
Among the three living puppies, only one survived. The shelter named her Griselda.
“With constant care and unwavering hope, Griselda began to recover,” the shelter shared.
“She was placed with Allison, one of our staff members, who became her dedicated foster mom.”
Months later, Griselda, now renamed Bits, found her forever home.
“It was a joyous moment to see her healthy and thriving, a true testament to life’s resilience,” the shelter celebrated.
A year later, the shelter staff and Bits’ former foster mom, Allison, reunited with the now-healthy dog.
“She came to our wellness center for vaccines and a check-up. We watched in amazement as she eagerly reunited with Allison,” the shelter described.
“Their bond was as strong as ever.”
The post about Bits’ reunion included a photo of her as a puppy and another of Allison hugging the now-grown dog.
“We are thankful for our ALE officers who rescued her, our veterinary team who healed her, her foster family who cared for her, and her adoptive family who gave her a loving home,” the shelter wrote.
Bits’ new mom, Katie Barlow, also commented on the post, sharing an update on Bits’ life.
“Today, she’s thriving in the mountains with her three rescued canine siblings, living the wonderful life she deserves. We’re so thankful she found her forever home with us,” Katie wrote.
