I’ve learned that getting older doesn’t really slow a dog down, especially when snacks or cake are involved. Mason, the blind therapy dog from @masontheblindgolden, just turned 12, and his reaction to his birthday treat says it all.
His family baked him a special cake, and he was completely over the top with excitement. Even at 12, this Golden Retriever still behaves like a little puppy the moment food shows up.
In a recent video, I watched him waiting on the steps while people sang “Happy Birthday,” and he truly lives up to his bio, “heartbreakingly cute.”

The video opens with Mason sitting calmly on the front steps beside one of his humans. As soon as the singing starts, his patience begins to fade. I could see him trying to step down, clearly drawn in by the smell of frosting.
At one point, he even lets out a small whine, but his human gently pulls him back to wait until the song is over. He sits, stands, then sits again, clearly unable to contain himself.
All he wants is that cake.
Then the clip jumps to the moment he finally gets his treat. He goes straight in, trying to take on the entire cake in one go. One of his humans joked that he “almost inhaled a few treats right there.”
After that first burst of excitement, he slows down and starts enjoying each bite. I noticed him licking up the toppings, and the little lip smacks make the whole moment even sweeter.
At one point, he grabs a bone-shaped biscuit, holds it for a second, then goes right back to taking big bites of the cake. It’s obvious he’s loving every second of his birthday snack.
While Mason is busy enjoying his cake, another one of his humans steps in to give him some gentle pats. Soon, he’s getting head scratches and lots of affection.
This sweet dog has built a following of over 60.7k people, all of whom sent him birthday love. One person commented that 12-year-olds have never looked better, while another said his fluffy spirit brings them joy. Watching a dog be this loved just feels so heartwarming.
